With many of the Singer models, this one also has a strong metal frame under its hood to stand up to years of use.

Singer 2277 Tradition Review - Sewing MachineThe machine will sew a wide variety of fabrics from your finer materials and even denim, but is not really designed to sew multiple layers of thicker fabrics, and always check the manual to see what needle, thread, and presser foot are recommended for your fabrics.

Another thing to mention is that this machine comes at a low price, and with the features it does have is a very good bargain, and would even make a great gift to any new sewers.

The Singer Tradition 2277 Review

We will go through the features found on the 2277, and you can see if it would be a good match for your sewing projects.

How Many Stitches Does The Singer Tradition 2277 Have?

This model comes with 23 built-in stitches, which consist of 7 stretch, 6 essential, 9 decorative stitches and 1 buttonhole.

The machine has dials to set the length and width of the stitches with 4 mm being the maximum length and 5 mm being the maximum width.

The stitches are easy to select, and are displayed on the pattern selector dial, which just turns to what ever stitch you want.

This model comes with the reverse sewing lever to reinforce stitches, and just hold down the lever for it to stitch in reverse, then releasing the lever and it continues forward again.

The seed of this machine is about 350 to 400 stitches per minute, making it easy for any beginner sewers to get used to.

Singer Tradition Sewing Machine Bobbin and Threading

As with most sewing machines it takes very little time to set up, and start sewing. So first thing is to wind your bobbin, and on this model just follow the imprinted diagrams on top over to the bobbin, then push the bobbin spindle to the right and press on foot control for the winding.

When bobbin is full it will slow down, and is ready to remove.

This machine has a front loading bobbin system, and not the easy top loading way, so to load the bobbin pull off the accessory drawer and open the hinged cover, then remove the bobbin case by its tap, and put the bobbin in with the thread in a clockwise direction, and thread through the slit then under the finger leaving about 6 inches of thread exposed.

Then by holding the hinged latch of the bobbin case, insert it into the shuttle, and if any difficulty arises doing this for the first time you can always check the diagrammed instruction manual.

Here is how to thread your Tradition 2277

To thread this machine you can follow the numbered guides imprinted on the machine down to the automatic needle threader, and use it, which is a great time saver for many.

Then using the hand wheel, you can bring up the bobbin thread and with the needle thread guide them under the foot to the back of the machine, and you’re ready to sew.

There is a dial on top of the machine for setting the thread tension when needled, but 90 % of all the sewing the dial will be between 3 and 5.

We do recommend after setting up your machine to try out the stitching on a scrap piece of fabric, and when needed there is also a manual thread cutter on the end of the machine.

The Free Arm

This model has the free arm by removing the extension table, you then have the ability to sew cuffs, pants, sleeves, etc.

The Lights

The lighting on this model is just above the work area giving you good vision while sewing darker fabrics, and comes on when the machine is powered up.

Singer hop provided 4 presser feet for this model.

  1. All purpose foot
  2. Buttonhole foot
  3. Zipper foot

To change presser feet, raise the lever behind the presser foot and it will drop off, and attach another by lowering the shank onto the pin of another, and it will snap into place.

The presser foot can be raised by the lever at the back of the machine for moving fabrics around or when sewing thicker fabrics.

The control buttons and Dials

  1. Just above the sewing area is the reverse stitch lever for reinforcing seams
  2. Above the reverse lever on top of the machine is the thread tension dial.
