DIY Diapers Bag Step by Step
Step 1 – Cut out All The Fabric Pieces
Prewash and press all the fabrics before you cut out the pieces for this tutorial, you can measure the fabric with a measuring tape and cut out the two pieces of fabric with a good pair of scissors, but you can also do this step by using a rotary cutter, a patchwork ruler and a cutting mat.
Use a good pair of scissors to cut out the velcro.
Step 2 – Trace A Line On Each End Of the Fabric
Pick one fabric to be on the outside of the diapers bag and the other fabric will be the lining.
On the right side of the fabric for the outside, trace a line on each end, on the center of 3 inches long, at 2 inches from the edge, you can use a pencil or a marker for fabrics.
Step 3 – Stitch On The Velcro
Stitch on the two velcro pieces, hook and loop pieces, on each mark you traced on the fabric, reinforce the stitching at the beginning and at the end.
Step 3 – Prepare The Piece For The Stitching
Lay the piece of fabric with the velcro on your work table, right side up, and lay over it the second piece of fabric, with the right side down, pin it.
Stitch on both sides, 1/4 inch seam, remove pins.
Step 4 – Mark Both Sides
The next step can be done with a measuring tape or with the patchwork ruler as I show it on the image below.
Mark each side from the seam 4 1/2 inches, make a mark on the top and on the bottom with pencil, do the same on the other side.
Step 5 – Fold And Mark Both Sides.
Fold each side on the marks you made on the top and on the bottom, press with a warm iron or with your finger nails.
On the image below, I show you how the mark looks like on the purple fabric on the left side, and how I folded to press to mark the right side.
Step 6 – Open The Seams On Both Sides.
Open and press with your finger nails the seams on both sides.
Step 7 – Fold Inside Both Sides
Fold inside both sides on the marks you made on step 5, the project should be on the wrong side of the fabric all the time, pinch a pin on each corner to hold in place all the fabric folded.
Step 8 – Stitch On The Bottom And Top
Stitch on the top and the bottom, leave an opening of 1 1/2 inch, on any (top or bottom)
With a good pair of scissors, trim the four corners.
Step 9 – Turn the Piece Out.
Turn the project out by the opening you left, with your fingers or with the help of rounded pointed pair of scissors, push out the four corners.
Step 10 – Top Stitching
Top stitching (1/4 inch) both pockets edge, it might be tricky to place the project on the sewing machine, but as the project has not any lining between the two fabrics, it’s easy to work on this step.
Reinforce the top stitching at the begining and at the end.
Tuck in the seam in the opening, and top stitching on the edge, on the top and on the bottom.
The Diapers Bag is finished and you can put one or two baby diapers inside, just fold the bag and the velcro will keep it close.
The diapers bag is finished and it looks amazing!

Woww, this diy diaper bag looks so easy! My husband has gifted me a toyota sewing machine on my birthday 3 years ago and he’s waiting for me to be able to make a project using the machine. But up until now, I was only able to make homemade table napkins from old bedsheets. And some clothes fixing. This looks like a very doable project. Thank you for sharing.
You have encouraged me to make my own diaper bag. So I have researched what I could put in a diaper bag. Here is my list:
A portable changing pad.
Diapers (1 to 2 for every hour you plan to be out)
Travel pack of disposable diaper wipes.
Plastic bags to wrap up unclean diapers or hold wet clothes.
Diaper rash cream.
Cloths for burping or for covering boys during changes.
A small bottle of hand sanitizer.
Change of clothes for baby.
