Brother PQ1500SL vs Juki TL-2010Q As you start making quilts, it comes the time when you know it is the moment to switch from a regular sewing machine into a model that will help you to work on your quilts with ease and with quality stitching at the time to work on the free motion quilting.

You know by now, working on a full size quilt requires a sturdy sewing machine that will work with the highest quality at the time to work on the piecing of the top and the same quality as you work on the free motion quilting.

Working on a big quilt can be a different way to work on garment construction or other sewing projects.

As you take a look to these two quilting machines, you will find more about why quilters chose them at the top of the list when talking about quilting sewing machines.

Both are designed and made by well-known sewing machine brands, and both are made with high quality that will help sewers and quilters to work on their projects with easy and quality.

But let’s take a closer look to each one of these models, so you can choose the one to have in your sewing room.

Brother PQ1500SL vs Juki TL-2010Q Specs.

Brother Corporation is a well-known around the blog for their high quality, and affordable sewing machines.

In the other hand, you have Juki which is a corporation that makes well-designed and high quality sewing machines for industrial use but they also thought of designing and making some sewing and quilting machines for personal and small business use.

On the table below, you can see that both quilting machines are made in China.

The Brother PQ1500SL has only one straight stitch, while on the other hand the Juki TL-2000Q comes with 7 stitches, both have the foot pedal speed control and the difference of the stitch length is not much between these two models and the type of shuttle is vertical on both sewing machines.

If you’re looking for a sewing and quilting machine with the features of multiple stitches, the Juki TL2000Q is the winner here, but Let’s take a look to more features on these two models before you click the purchase button.

What Quilting Machine Is The Best To Have In The Sewing Room?

When you think about getting a new sewing machine to work on your quilts, you might have the idea that the sewing machine will stay in the sewing room all the time.

Both models are made sturdy and well-designed to help you to work on small and big quilts, you won’t have any problem to work on a big quilt, without worrying about how to keep the sewing machine in one place on the sewing table as you move your quilt on it.

The size and weight of both sewing machine are similar and the difference between the two models will not make any difference to help you to chose between one or the other.

By the size and weight of these two models, you need to know these are models designed to be kept in the sewing room and they are not designed to be carried to the sewing or quilting classes.

Brother PQ1500SL and Juki TL-2010Q Features

When taking a look to both sewing machines features, it comes more clear to see some differences between these two models that might help you to decide to chose one from the two of them.

The Brother PQ 1500Sl has only the foot speed control, but I don’t see much problem to work on this sewing machine to make your quilts, as you can get used to controlling the speed this way.

It comes with the free arm that will help you to work on difficult sewing areas with ease.

One big pro of this model is that it comes with the quilting feet you need to work on quilts: the spring action quilting foot and the walking foot, this is a big YES

Another big YES on this model is the precision pin feeding system, that will help you to work on your quilts better.

The Juki TL-2010Q also comes with some good features that makes it stand out, it comes with the speed control knob, and this is a great feature to keep in your mind for beginner quilters, as you work with this sewing machine on your quilts you can focus on the making of the quilt and not the need to control the speed at the same time as you work on the quilt.

Something you need to consider is that it doesn’t have the free arm, if you’re thinking on working on this sewing machine to make other projects but quilts, like making small pieces of clothing for personal use or to start your own small business, you need to consider this point.

Another point that makes its weight on my list to chose this model is that it doesn’t come with the quilting feet you need to work on any quilt if you like to work on the free motion quilting.

If you love to work on your quilts on hand quilting, this is not a point to consider, as you can work with ease and quality to make all your tops for the quilts, and at the time to work on the biding of a quilt, you can be sure this model will work perfect.

If you’re considering this model to work on the free motion quilting, you only need to consider besides the difference of price between these two models, you will need to purchase the Quilting feet set to work on this model.

Brother PQ1500SL vs Juki TL-2010Q

After having tested both models, I come to the conclusion both models are great sewing machines to consider to have in your sewing room.

Both models are designed to help you to work on the making of quilts with success no matter what the size of the quilt. You will be delighted to work with either of these two models to make any top for a quilt with ease.

Brother PQ1500SL vs Juki TL-2010QThere’s nothing that can beat the pleasure to work on a model that is designed for this purpose, it has the right size and the right weight to help you to focus on the work you do as you work on a new quilt than taking your time to keep the sewing machine in one place as you work on a big project.

The quality of the one straight stitch is more than enough when you think on getting a sewing machine to make quilts. Unless you love to make Crazy Quilts and add tons of decorative stitches on the quilt, you’ll be fine with one straight stitch sewing machine.

Both sewing machines are well-designed and well-made, and by this, I mean they are made to last for many years in your sewing room.

Brother and Juki corporations are well-known by making sewing rooms that will help sewers around the world to work with them as a personal project or as a business.

The point for you is to help you to chose one from the other will be the price, Brother is well know by making affordable sewing machine models, Juki in the other hand is known by being focused on making sewing machine for industrial use but they are more expensive.

  1. Thanks for the thorough comparison review of Brother and Juki sewing machines.  To be honest, I didn’t realize Brother made sewing machines, although I’ve found them to make other reliable products at affordable prices.  It’s no surprise that you recommend Brother as the affordable choice.  On the other hand, sometimes we need a machine that does more and it’s best to spend the extra money on the Juki.  Keep up the good work.

  3. I am beginning to learn to sew from my spouse, she is a good fashion designer and I am learning to make a side hustle, who knows I might be the next big thing. Learning about these machines here is simply amazing, I have not really asked questions about these but as I am hoping to get one of these I already have the answers before I asked the questions. This article is really of great help to and I will surely share my findings with my spouse, am sure she will learn some more from here. I have seen her use the juki pl 2010 q before and I think it’s amazing.

  4. You know, my mom used to sew a lot and when i saw that image of the Juki TL2010Q sewing machine it just brought back fond memories of seeing her sitting in front of her machine doing her thing.

This machine looks so much like hers, but when i checked i realized that the specs are way better on this one from Juki.

That machine just looks sleek and i like the fact that it has all of 7 stitches as compared to the Brother machines 1 stitch capability.

I have a question regarding the Brother PQ1500SL machine though.  Do you have any idea why that area of the base of the machine has such a long extension?  I’m talking about that area in front of the Presser Foot and Throat Plate

    • Hi Donald

The difference of the area you see in the image of the Brother PQ1500SL is because it comes with an extra large table to help sewers and quilters to have more working area on their projects.

While reading I know that the quality of the one straight stitch is more than enough when you think on getting a sewing machine to make quilts. Unless you love to make Crazy Quilts and add tons of decorative stitches on the quilt, you’ll be fine with one straight stitch sewing machine. Your guide is awesome for everyone. 6. Everybody loves a nice quilt.

Do you actually make quilts? Quilts are great. It would be interesting to see some of the stuff you’ve done.

    Which machine do you use?

It’s great to be able to sew. And a nice sewing machine can be a thing of beauty and a great thing to have. Much like the man who has a home workshop with a lathe and a grinding wheel.

These two machines sound good. People making quilts probably dream of owning one of them, if they don’t already have one.

I,d like to hear a little about your quilt making. Is it a hobby or something more businessy?

What kind of color combinations do you prefer?

Yes, I make quilts, I’ve had a few different sewing and quilting machines in the past to make my quilts.

Today, I own a few different sewing machines from mechanical, computerized and one semi industrial, I use them everyday to work on different sewing and quilting projects.
