How Many Stitches Has The Juki HZL-70HW?
This machine has 80 stitches to chose from, and on the front of the machine are 6 direct pattern selection buttons.
There are utility stitches, buttonhole stitches, darning, eyelet, satin, cross, quilt, and decorative stitches.
The handy direct pattern selection buttons are the most frequently used for sewing, and can be selected in any mode, plus there is a slide out chart on the bottom front of the machine for the other stitches.
The stitch length on this machine is adjustable from 0 to 4.5 mm, and the stitch width is from 0 to 7 mm.
This machine will automatically set the width and length of the stitch you have chosen but can be adjusted with the + and – buttons, plus the instruction manual will have diagrammed instructions if any difficulty arises.
On the front of the machine is the reverse button to sew reinforcement stitches when needed, and when stitch patterns 1 to 15 and 23 – 80 are selected, the machine sews the reverse stitch slowly when the button is pressed.
The auto-lock button just below the reverse button will sew 3 locking stitches when pressed using patterns 0 to 15, and also when patterns 28 to 80 are used, pressing the button will cause the machine to sew 3 locking stitches at the end of a pattern.
This model also has the speed limiting lever, on the front of the machine to control the stitching speed as this machine is able to sew up to 800 stitches per minute.
Bobbing Winding and Threading For The Juki HZL-70HW
For bobbin winding you can follow the guides on top of the machine, and with thread started on the bobbin push the bobbin spindle to the right, then use either the foot pedal or the start/stop button to wind the thread.
Once the bobbin is full it will spin slowly, so just stop the machine and remove the bobbin, and push the bobbin winding spindle back to the left sewing position, which will show on the number display.
To insert the bobbin, this machine is top loading, so is very easy to do, by removing the top cover.
With power off and needle and presser foot fully raised, insert the bobbin with thread coming off counter clockwise, and follow the guides, and type 15 bobbin is recommended.
Threading the top thread is just a matter of following the guides down to the needle then use the needle threader to finish, putting the thread through the needle eye.
Once you have finished threading, you can raise the bobbin thread by tuning the hand wheel towards you, then guide both threads under the presser foot towards the back of the machine.
On this machine, at the top is the thread tension dial, above the sewing area and the basic thread tension is usually at 4, but can be adjusted for different fabrics.
There is a chart in the instruction manual for the recommended needle size, for the fabrics, and the thread to use.
On the face cover at the left end of the machine is a manual thread cutter, and when used the thread will be at the right length for the next seam.
The Free Arm
The free arm can be accessed by removing the sewing table and accessory box, so that you can sew tubular areas, cuffs pants, sleeves, etc.
Lighting
This machine has an LED light over the sewing area, which is a big help when sewing darker fabrics or at night.

Changing the presser feet is quick and easy on this machine, by pressing the black lever behind the foot to release it, then lower the foot holder unto a new one.

A presser foot pressure adjuster is on top of the machine above the sewing area, with a standard pressure of 2 which for most normal sewing will not need to be adjusted.
The Feed Dogs.
The feed dogs for this juki will move your fabrics very smoothly while sewing.
To raise or lower the feed dogs, just remove the sewing table and the lever is at the back, which will give you free hand sewing or quilting.
After moving the feed dogs, you will need to turn the hand wheel a complete turn to raise them back up.
