Embroidery is not hard to get started, and anyone who is willing to give it a try, can start with a few supplies and working on an easy to do design with the basic embroidery stitches.
When you’re a creative person, sooner or later you will find yourself getting started with some embroidery, and I can agree with you, as this is a hobby anyone can do and you don’t need to break the bank to get the basic embroidery supplies to get started.
Basic Embroidery Supplies
Fabric – There are many types made for embroidery, but when you want to learn how to embroidery, any piece of fabric will be good, try to find at home a piece of fabric made from natural fibers like cotton, linen, and if you want to start with a piece of denim, try to find one that is thin and soft.
Embroidery Floss – Most people who love to do embroidery will agree that the easiest way to get started is by working on a design with embroidery floss, there are many colors you can pick from, two or maybe three to get started, and the price is affordable.
Embroidery Needles – You might want to start your embroidery hobby with the sewing needles you might have at home already, I will suggest you to get a package of embroidery needles, their price is not big, and the quality of these type of needles will help you to work with ease on your first embroidery.
Hoop – There are many types of embroidery that can be made without a hoop, but if you’re a beginner, a hoop will hold your fabric stretched and it will help you to get all the embroidery stitches made well.
Embroidery Scissors – In general you can use a pair of scissors you have already at home, but if you want to spoil yourself, on your next stop at the craft’s store, get a pair of embroidery scissors, they are designed to help you to cut the embroidery thread and to take off some unwanted stitches with ease.
How To Get Started With Embroidery
Embroidery Design – I know, there are plenty of beautiful embroidery designs out there, but if you start with a design that requires some embroidery design or lots of work hours, you might get the wrong idea that this is not a hobby for you.
When you start with an easy embroidery design that is made with basic embroidery stitches, it will help you to learn the basic of embroidery like how to thread your needle, how to start a stitch and how to finish your stitching. An easy to make embroidery will help you to get it finished in no time.
Try to keep working on a few easy to do embroidery designs, before you start working on a design for intermediate level, as you get skilled you can try some higher level designs.
Natural Fiber Fabrics – Find an embroidery design that can be made on a piece of cotton or linen fabric, as they are easy to work on and your embroidery work will stand out nicely.
Start working on short periods of time, as a beginner you might get tired of working on your embroidery, as a design can take a few hours to be finished, if you work for one hour or half an hour at the beginning, you won’t get sore and you can keep working on it when you feel more relaxed.
Don’t get unmotivated for some bad stitches, every embroidery artist was a beginner, and we all have learned by working on many different projects until each artist got skilled enough, sometimes some stitches might not be perfect, but don’t allow this to stop you, you will get better at it as you keep working on your new hobby.

Work on your embroidery with daylight, this was one of the first tips embroidery teachers always told me, it’s always better to work with daylight as you will be able to see better your stitches and you will protect your sight.
