There is a heavy-duty metal frame under it’s exterior, and that will stop it from moving around while you’re sewing, plus the machine is very easy to get it set up and start sewing.

We will go through some of the features found on the Singer M1500, to give you a better idea if this machine would be a good fit for any of your sewing projects, or for a beginner sewer starting out.

How Many Stitches Come On The Singer M1500?

The machine has 6 different stitch types, satin, blind hem, scallop, zigzag, straight, and buttonhole.

The buttonhole stitches for this machine are made in 4 steps, which is not as convenient as the single step buttonhole, so might take a little getting used to it.

There are 3 straight stitches on the dial to the right of the buttonholes, followed by the satin, than 2 zigzag stitches, and 1 triple zigzag with the next being the blind hem, and the scallops stitch giving you basically 10 stitches to work with.

The instruction manual gives you diagrammed instructions for each stitch.

To tie off your stitches at the beginning or end of a seam, just press down on the reverse sewing lever located on the front right of the machine.

Another thing to mention is that the stitch length and width are preset, so no adjustments to be made.

The Bobbin and Threading On the Singer M1500

Singer M1500 ReviewThis machine uses the class 15 bobbins, and comes with 4 of them.

Winding the bobbin is the same as most machines, by following the guides on top with the thread than over to the spindle, and pushing it to the right, and pressing on the foot pedal wind the bobbin, 4 or 5 turns, than cut off excess thread and continue winding, and when bobbin is full it will slow down, release foot pedal and remove the bobbin, also always remember to move the winding spindle back to the left, or the machine will not sew.

The bobbin on this machine is front loading and the needle has to be fully raised. Just open the hinged cover and pull out the bobbin case, than put in your fully loaded bobbin with the thread coming off in a clockwise direction, and following the diagrammed instructions in the manual, leaving about 6 inches of thread extra.

For the threading down to the needle, just follow the numbered guides on the machine leaving about 6 inches of thread to the back of the machine, and you can use the manual thread cutter on the end of the machine which gives you about the right length.

Also, note that for the threading the machine should be turned off for safety.

Then turn the hand wheel to raise the bobbin thread and have both threads go to the back under the presser foot.

How To Set Up Thread Tension On The Singer M1500

The machine has the thread tension dial just above the needle area, and 90% of all sewing it will be set between 3 and 5.

In the instruction manual you will find a needle, fabric, thread chart that gives excellent recommendation for the different fabrics, and what needle and thread to use.

  1. I recently bought a Singer M1500. I like the sewing machine very much. However, I have a small complaint. It did not come with the oil bottle as it said. This was kind of disappointing because I did not receive everything it said came with it. Besides that, I’m a satisfied customer.

  2. This is a good comprehensive guide to this singer machine.

While it is at the starter level, your review shows that it doesn’t mostly everything that you could possibly want at this level.

I like the handiness and easy storage of the smaller models.  And it is made by a reputable manufacturer.

With the make and your review, I would have no difficulty in choosing this sewing machine.

Thank you and keep the reviews coming.

  3. Hi Alex. Another great review. Im sewing by myself for a while and I remember how difficult it was to choose my first sewing machine. This one seems as a great starting point, its simple, compact and in reasonable price. And Singer is great company with long tradition of high quality products. I wouldn’t choose it by myself as few more advanced options are missing, but I would recommend it to all beginners

  4. I fell in love with sewing my own clothes when I left college. This machine resembles my first sewing machine. It iseem to be a reasonable good machine and I like to work with a simple one, not the programmed ones. I like that free arm swing but would prefer my top loading, which is easier, but I am not excited about that button hole process. It seems like a great purchase to me. I might just get back into my sewing again while my family watches TV in the evenings. Thank you

  5. I will never forget the hours my Mother spent sewing on her Singer sewing machine.

She had a simple, straightforward machine. It did everything that she wanted. I didn’t have added bells and whistles but a Singer machine that she would recommend to everyone interested to hear her opinion.

She wasn’t wanting to learn how to operate a computer. She was very experienced at using her simple Singer sewing machine and had no reason to buy anything else.

  6. These sewing machines are great. Singer is by far my favorite, it’s the easiest ones to work with, when I jam it, which I always do, it’s easy to fix. The instructions are easy to follow, and changing the tensile strength isn’t guesswork. Some of those other ones are difficult, and I have to play with it and undo some of the work if I guess wrong.
